There is No Spoon: Writers Block
In the famous movie “The Matrix,” there is a scene where Neo sees a boy bending a spoon with his mind.
Neo walks up to the boy and tries to bend the spoon using his mind as well, but he fails. The boy seeing Neo struggling with the spoon offers up some words of advise:
“Do not try and bend the spoon, that’s impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth…that there is no spoon. Then you will see it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.”
I remember meeting one of the few consistent writers out there by the name Sally Kenneth Dadzie of Moskeda Pages.
When she was asked how she dealt with “Writers Block,” I was expecting the usual defacto author answer “just write through it” or “keep writing till it goes.”
But what she said was profound and is similar to the spoon boy in the matrix. In her words “There is no such thing as writers block.” And when we realize that writers block does not really exist, then we will know that it is not writers block we have to defeat but rather ourselves!
PS: No spoons where bent in the writing of this article, but several writing myths were hopefully destroyed.
