Dear Nigerian Authors Stop Writing For Free #CubicleEntrepreneur

One of the most difficult things we have faced while running OkadaBooks is convincing authors that they can get paid for their stories. That the articles they give out away daily for free on their blogs actually has value.

We spend weeks even months convincing authors to simply copy and paste their stories into our system and set a price. Any price but FREE!

And when they finally do so. When they finally decide to put a price to their work. When they finally start earning … they get excited. But not everyone gets excited …

For some the money is not big enough or coming fast enough. And then I inevitably get asked “why?”
The sort of “why” that alludes to the belief that the fault for the slow flowing money is that of OkadaBooks (and believe me we have faults … plenty faults).

But the primary problem is that we (authors) have given away our words for free for far too long.

So free that we have collectively devalued our profession and our writings. So free that readers struggle to see the need to pay us for our words, ironically, even we as authors struggle to pay ourselves!

And until we see value, not just a few authors, but a multitude of Nigerian authors see value in what we write … when that happens, then we will finally start to see the money flow.
